Inspired by Pope Leo XIV's Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, the Codex Humanitatis is founded on a simple yet profound conviction: the human person can never be reduced to an algorithm.
As humanity enters the age of Artificial Intelligence, the defining question is no longer only what technology can do, but what it means to be human. The Codex Humanitatis seeks to offer a shared framework of principles that safeguards human dignity while guiding the ethical future of Artificial Intelligence.

The Founding Assembly will bring together a selected and distinguished group of global leaders, Nobel Laureates, renowned artists, pioneering scientists, philosophers and cultural voices entrusted with shaping one of the defining human documents of our age, the Codex Humanitatis.
The Objective
As Artificial Intelligence rapidly transforms every aspect of society, the Codex Humanitatis seeks to identify the fundamental human values that should inspire the development, governance and use of emerging technologies.
The Outcome
The Founding Assembly will establish the first Founding Principles of the Codex Humanitatis. Following an international consultation and refinement process, the Codex will become a global reference framework guiding governments, companies, universities, international organizations, and civil society in the responsible governance and deployment of AI

The Founding Members will gather for the first time. Guided by the synodal methodology, the Assembly will identify the human principles that must be protected in the age of AI. The foundational document will then undergo international consultation and refinement.
Following the consultation process, the first edition of the Codex Humanitatis culminates in the presentation of its first edition at the Vatican in early 2027.
The Codex Humanitatis will be officially presented at the World Economic Forum, inviting governments, companies, international organisations and civil society institutions to become Founding Signatories and transform these principles into a shared global commitment.
The Codex Humanitatis will continue its journey through organized conversations, partnerships and initiatives across the key AI world capitals, bringing its principles into dialogue with societies, cultures and technological communities.
Participation is by personal invitation only. The Founding Assembly has been intentionally limited to ensure meaningful dialogue among those entrusted with defining the first principles of the Codex Humanitatis.
